Hulusi

The hulusi (meaning small pumpkin) is an ancient, traditional Chinese free reed wind instrument that belongs to the mouth organ family.
The soundbox is made from a bottle gourd and contains the melodic metal reed, which creates the instrument’s characteristic warm and nasal tones. Similarly to bagpipes, a pipe attached to the side is used to create an even bourdon drone, which can be optionally played at the same time as the melody.
